MDBs are simpler beasts, and since session beans share much of their metadata, we refer you to the mapping subsections of the preceding Migrating the EJB 2.1 Session Bean ejb-jar.xml Properties section for their common properties. This section will cover metadata that is specific to MDBs. As with session bean migration, the biggest differences between MDBs in EJB 2.1 and EJB 3 are dependency injection and the annotations that go with MDBs. You can use dependency injection in the MDB class to inject resources, instead of using JNDI lookup code. In EJB 3, MDBs do not have to implement the javax.ejb.MessageDrivenBean interface; they can instead be annotated with @MessageDriven. Resources and EJB references can be injected into MDBs in the same way as session beans. Similarly, you can inject the context (MessageDrivenContext for an MDB) into the MDB.

The first step in the process of creating the physical website is to install Drupal. For demonstration purposes, I am going to install the site on my laptop and then migrate the completed site to my hosting company. EJB 3 MDBs are not required to implement a special EJB interface. During migration, they must be annotated @MessageDriven.
